LPPM UYP Strengthens Faculty Expertise Through Patent Drafting Workshop: From Research to Patents
Pasuruan – The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at Universitas Yudharta Pasuruan (UYP) continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing faculty research and innovation. One of the concrete steps is the Patent Drafting Workshop themed “From Research to Patents to Strengthen Faculty Expertise”, held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the BTI Building Hall Meeting.
The workshop was attended by 32 lecturers from 16 study programs, with each program sending two representatives. The event featured Nugraha Pratama Adhi, ST., M.HP, a lecturer at Universitas Ciputra and an experienced intellectual property consultant, as the keynote speaker. During his session, Nugraha provided systematic techniques for drafting patents, from identifying inventions within faculty research articles to formulating them into patent claims that meet formal standards.
UYP Vice Rector for Research, Technology, and Innovation, Lukman Hakim, PhD, emphasized the importance of patents as both academic legitimacy and a means to strengthen faculty expertise. “Patents are not only about protecting works but also serve as evidence of faculty expertise aligned with their research roadmaps. From research to patents, this is our strategy to strengthen academic expertise while preparing Universitas Yudharta Pasuruan to achieve its international vision,” he stated.
Head of the Division of Publication and Intellectual Property (HKI) of LPPM UYP, Mochamad Hasyim, S.PdI., M.PdI., reaffirmed the follow-up commitment after the workshop. “We will provide ongoing assistance to ensure that the patent drafts prepared by our faculty can be refined until they are ready for submission and granted. This follow-up process is crucial so that the research outcomes of our lecturers can truly be transformed into intellectual property that has academic legitimacy and legal protection,” he said.
This workshop is part of a series of continuous patent assistance programs organized by LPPM. Through such initiatives, UYP expects more faculty innovations to emerge that carry not only high academic value but also tangible societal impact. Furthermore, the program is envisioned to strengthen the university’s academic reputation at both the national and international levels.
